Interstellar Technoverse Futurism

A few days ago I saw the La Roux “Bulletproof” music video for the first time. I was surprised by the visual style, reminding me of the early Cindy Lauper (80′s pop rocker), the “Tron” movie (clean and simple) and design elements I have seen before in Daft Punk music videos (lens flare, colors). What really strucked me: This video has been published in May 2009 – a year ago!

Yesterday I saw the “On a mission” music video performed by Gabriella Cilmi. This track has been released in January 2010 and is much more a classic dance music video than La Roux. It is set into a space frontier plot and is a great reminiscence to the visual style from the late 80′s and the interstellar science fiction/fantasy art from the 50′s and 60′s.

While I was searching for videos which remind me to these styles, I stumbled upon the Tron 2 trailer. I think all these examples proof that our culture is heading into an new era of design: Post-Futurism. The “new thing” seems to be that technology which surrounds us today – like Smartphones, Tablets, Websites, Online Services, Mobile Internet – make visions from the past more tangible than ever. Which is great, because the imagery of classic futurism is shared with equal ideas across the world: Unity, freedom, new frontiers.
